How Backlinks Work With SEO

Because search engines are our main source of web traffic SEO is the best way to take advantage of that. It is a fairly broad issue and it has many techniques for moving your site up on the result pages. One of the best ways to do this is backlinks.

Backlinks are sometimes called ‘inbound links’. They are hypertext links that go from one site to another. A link that appears on a different site that points back to yours is a backlink. When the search engine ‘bots’ see that they like it. There is a difference in the quality and the density of these links, but search engines use them to determine if your site is relevant or not. Having good backlinks can help your site to rank higher in the eyes of the search engines.

There are two kinds of backlinks. There are the ones that webmasters develop and there are natural ones. The natural ones are the ones that the search engines like. Backlinks as a whole are more authentic because ordinarily they are used for exchanging information between sites. It’s important for site owners to understand the algorithms that search engines use and how they work.

The way that search engines look at backlinks is like a ‘vote’ for your site, and if the site has a good page rank then it is a strong vote. Not all votes are the same. Some carry more weight than others. An example would be like a link from Wikepedia as opposed to some obscure blog.

So to determine what a quality backlink is you need to understand the parameters that define them. The higher the page rank of the link back to your site the better. Backlinks are also valued by their relevance to your content and purpose for your site. Keywords are totally relevant. If you have content that is different from sites you link to then it will get less priority. If you want to get more traffic to your site then you have to build quality backlinks for your SEO strategy.

Buidling backlinks needs to be done slowly and naturally. Stay away from link farms and buying links. The search engines are really good about weeding that out today. It is far better to have patience and let your links come naturally than to try and rush things along and have the search engines come down on you.
